Apple offers rare iPhone, Apple Watch SE, AirPods discount in China

Apple is running an almost unheard of iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods sale in China, with the iPhone 13 being offered for around $90 off its regular retail price, for a limited time.

Apple's iPhone sales have been dipping and then reviving in China. Then most recently, half of all smartphone sales in the country's 618 Festival in June were iPhones.

Even so, Apple has revealed that it is to offer discounts on the iPhone, the Apple Watch SE, and AirPods over the long weekend of Friday July 29, 2022, to Monday, August 1, 2022.

The news came via notices on Apple's China website, ahead of the start of the sales. As well as being limited to this four-day period, buyers are required to pay using certain selected payment methods, such as Alipay, Huabei, and China Merchants Bank.

Apple is also offering 12 months interest-free payments on the discounted items. In total, the Apple products to go on sale are:

  • iPhone 13 range (any model) discounted by $89
  • iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 mini discounted by $74
  • iPhone SE (3rd Generation) discounted by $30
  • Apple Watch SE discounted by $37
  • AirPods Pro discounted by $37
  • AirPods (3rd Generation) discounted by $22

This brings the price in China of a base iPhone 13 Pro Max, for instance, down from $1,331 to $1,242. The same phone in the US costs $1,099.

These discounts come ten months after the iPhone 13 range was first announced. The iPhone 14 range is expected to be unveiled in September 2022.
