Apple issues third watchOS 10 developer beta

Developers can download the new watchOS beta

Developers who are part of the beta program can obtain the latest versions by accessing them through the Apple Developer Center or updating their devices with the beta software. Typically, public beta versions are made available shortly after the developer releases through the Apple Beta Software Program.

The third beta replaces the second, which arrived on June 21, while the first appeared on June 5 following the WWDC keynote.

The third build is number 21R5305e, replacing the second, number 21R5295g.

The changes to watchOS 10 for its major update largely focuses on faces and widgets, with Smart Stack listing widgets and useful information. It's triggered by turning the Digital Crown, which can also bring up the Control Center in a change of its function.

New Palette and Peanuts watch faces join the party for version 10. Apple's core apps are also updated to provide more glanceable information and use up more of the display.

To make sure there's more cohesiveness between apps, Apple has provided the design language it uses to developers of third-party apps.

On the fitness side, cyclists gain new views to help monitor cadence, speed, and power, complete with a new Live Activity for iPhone that can be expanded full-screen.

Hiking workouts include important safety waypoints, such as the Last Cellular Connection Waypoint and the Last Emergency Call Waypoint. There's also an Elevation View, Topographic Maps, and trail searches.

AppleInsider and Apple strongly suggest users don't install beta operating systems or other beta software on "mission-critical" or primary devices, as there is the small chance of issues that could result in the loss of data. Testers should instead use secondary or non-essential hardware and ensure they have sufficient backups of their critical data at all times.
