Apple Podcasts is expanding its transcriptions into eight more languages, making the text of podcasts automatically available to more international shows.
The transcripts feature has been a fantastic addition to Apple Podcasts since iOS 17.4. While initially only available for English, French, Spanish, and German shows, it's being enabled for even more languages now.
According to iCulture, the feature is rolling out into a number of languages starting from Wednesday. The new languages are:
- Dutch
- Danish
- Finnish
- Swedish
- Norwegian
- Italian
- Portuguese
- Brazilian Portuguese
The rollout will take some time to apply to podcasts in those languages, but new episodes will be the first to get the transcriptions. Transcribed episodes will be denoted by a speech bubble at the bottom left of the screen while it is being played.
As the podcast plays, words and sections of the transcript will be highlighted, allowing users to read along with the speech. They can also tap on a word in the transcript to jump to that point in the recording.

As an occasional podcaster, I welcome this development, which allows people who speak other languages to check out podcasts recorded in English (or other common languages like Spanish), allowing them to enjoy the content more fully. There’s a couple of Apple Podcasts in French I would like to check out.
