iPhone 17 Slim still rumored to have a 6.6-inch display

Renders of what the iPhone 17 Slim could look like

The iPhone 17 Slim will sport a new design and a 6.6-inch display, an analyst claims, as rumors about the slimline smartphone continue to circulate.

The iPhone 17 Slim is anticipated to be a new thinner model in the range, set to arrive alongside other iPhone 17 models in late 2025. With the potential launch a year away, analysts and leakers are continuing to forecast what the new model will offer to consumers.

A research note from Jeff Pu of Haitong International covers a number of areas that have been previously rumored. This includes the use of a 6.6-inch display for the new model, which will apparently take the place of the Plus model on the roster.

Powering it will be an A19 chip, which Pu says will use the 3-nanometer process TSMC used to produce the A18 Pro in the iPhone 16 Pro models. It will apparently have 8GB of memory, not quite the 12GB the Pro models could get as Pu claimed in May.

As for the construction of the slimline model, Pu proposes it will be made of aluminum. This should help an already thin device be much lighter than the titanium Pro models, but Apple will have to be careful to avoid any bend-related issues.

The cameras will consist of a single 48-megapixel rear sensor, Pu expects, while the front will have Face ID support and a 24-megapixel camera.

Pu adds that the model should have a brand-new design versus previous editions.

While Pu is one of the more prolific Apple rumor circulators, accuracy isn't his strong point, as he has previously been wrong about Apple release timetables. However, his observations this time around seem to be in line with other rumors and commentary about the model.

This is just silly. What's being described and shown in the speculative render is essentially a marginally slimmer, stripped down version of the iPhone Plus, supposedly to be sold at a premium price. And this makes sense how?

It's easy shorthand to say the iPhone Slim will be the phone equivalent of what the Macbook Air was to laptops when it debuted. What's much harder is to describe what that will mean. The Macbook Air was a total mic drop moment when pulled from the envelope. That render shown above is a yawn. A somewhat slimmer, stripped down version of what the iPhone already is will excite no one. The design must be mind-blowing, especially if it's to be sold at a premium price for tech specs reduced to accommodate that design. Could it be Jony Ive's ideal iPhone as a single slab of glass? Honestly, unless it's THAT, I don't know how "slimmer" is all that exciting, especially if you have to pay a higher price and accept reduced specs to get it.

No way Apple makes a phone and calls it “slim”.   That name sounds stupid. I thought the rumors are it will be called “air”,  if it even exists.  How about bringing back the 5.8 inch screen size.  Big enough to look good and yet still somewhat easy to use with one hand by many peiple.

I’d like to meet these so called peiple that don’t like the word Slim. I bet Slim Shady would like it.

I actually think "Slim" is better than "Air" as slim does not always equal weight.

I am still drawn to the 6/7/SE format as it is so compact...
likes:
- slim, round edge shape
- minimal lens footprint
- touch ID
- reuse of accessories

would like:
- latest 24mm eq lens (SE body)
- night photo mode
- full screen (keep touch id)
