Apple sells 1.6 million Macs, nearly 1 million notebooks
Apple Computer said Wednesday it sold a total of 1,610,000 Macintosh computers during the three-month period ending September, including nearly 1 million notebook systems.
Compared to the previous quarter, notebook sales were up 24 percent and represented a 16 percent increase in revenue.
During the quarter, Apple also sold 624,000 desktop systems, accounting for $869 million in revenue. Sales of Mac desktops were up 18 percent from the company's previous quarter, but represented only 4 percent increase from the year-ago quarter.
Apple's desktop systems include the iMac, Mac mini and Mac Pro.
The company also said it sold 8.73 million iPods during the quarter.

I thought I heard him say that they are excited about the new lineup of iPods for 1st quarter and holiday season. There are no new iPods unless he is hinting about a new iPod before Christmas

Still, Stevie J can't get complacent. Apple really should have a sub-$1000 laptop on-sale before Thanksgiving, if it wants to really press the advantage. So, where is it?
The time is NOW to steal even more marketshare away from the PC world, while Vista (aka 'OS X wannabe') is still unreleased and the holiday shopping season is upon us. A window of opportunity like this one doesn't come along very often. You listening, SJ?
