Apple on Thursday updated Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro, along with some of its other pro apps, with enhanced performance and efficiency on Apple Silicon.

The updates bring Final Cut Pro to version 10.5, and Logic Pro to version 10.6. Both appear aimed mainly at optimizing support for the upcoming MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini devices with M1 chips.

Notably, Apple has dropped the "X" designation from both apps, which were previously referred to as Final Cut Pro X and Logic Pro X.

Below are the release notes for Final Cut Pro.

  • Improved performance and efficiency on Mac computers with Apple silicon

  • Accelerated machine learning analysis for Smart Conform using the Apple Neural Engine on Mac computers with Apple silicon

  • Option to create a copy of your library and automatically transcode media to ProRes Proxy or H.264 at various resolutions

And here are the release notes for Logic Pro.

  • Improved performance and efficiency on Mac computers with Apple silicon

  • Adds the ability to control Step Sequencer using Logic Remote on your iPad or iPhone to create beats, bass lines, and melodic parts

  • Supports all Novation Launchpad controllers

  • Stability and performance improvements

In addition, Apple has also updated MainStage, Compressor, Motion, and Logic Remote. All are available to download from the Mac App Store.

I bet FCP SCREAMS on the new hardware compared to Premiere.

Disappointed FCP does not include any new features. Users have been waiting for a larger update. Resolve seems to add very useful things like ML based masking and many coloring options and professional sound editing; improvements at an annual basis, whereas FCP does not address its shortcomings.

What about the big update a few months ago? This was just to finalize the M1 transition.

I use FCPX personally (Avid professionally), but that last update was fantastic. Does it still need other functions? Sure, but let's not pretend they're not adding new features.

Logic is gonna be a beast.

What reasons do we have to use Pro Tools now?
