Apple's iPhone 13 is expected to start production in India in April, at a Foxconn facility that endured protests over food poisoning and poor living conditions.
Apple started a trial production of the iPhone 13 in India at the Sriperumbudur factory near Chennai in December, with a shift to full production shortly after. Months later, it seems that shift will take place in April.
According to sources of Business Standard, Apple is expected to use the Sriperumbudur facility to manufacture the iPhone 13 in April. The iPhones produced at the plant will be intended both for domestic sales and for export to other territories.
The factory has experience producing iPhones, having previously assembled the iPhone 11 since July 2020, as well as the iPhone 12, the iPhone XR, and the original iPhone SE.
The move into full production after the trial was allegedly delayed due to protests in December. After hundreds of employees sought medical attention from food poisoning, other employees protested about working conditions.
Apple placed the facility under probation until the situation improved. After reopening the factory in January with a severely reduced staff, it was thought the facility would get back to full production speed within two months.
