Apple to celebrate Earth Day with walks, podcasts, apps

Ahead of Earth Day on April 22, 2022, Apple has launched new a Time to Walk workout for Apple Fitness+, added new Apple Maps guides, and will unveil specially curated books and podcasts.

Already available is the new Time to Walk exercise with Dr Jane Goodall. Apple says that the renowned scientist "shares why she is willing to push past her fears for the sake of her work and what she has observed about the interconnectedness of all living things."

At the same time, there is a new Time to Run edition "that takes listeners through the beautiful sights and sounds of Yosemite National Park with an uplifting pop and rock playlist."

Apple Fitness+ users who complete these, or any other workout of 30 minutes or more on April 22, will earn a limited-edition award on their Apple Watch.

Also in advance of Earth Day itself, Apple Maps is introducing 25 new guides to help make it "easier than ever to find beautiful green spaces, family fun in nature, city walks, and trails." The guides are produced by Lonely Planet, AllTrails, and The Nature Conservancy in the US and Canada.

On April 22, a new "immersive augmented reality experience" will be released on Snapchat. It will show the "exciting environmental innovations behind iPhone 13."

Apple Books will include a new collection curated by children's author Oliver Jeffers. There will also be a "collection of eye-opening films about humanity's interdependent relationship with nature" which is curated for Apple TV by filmmaker Jennifer Baichwal.

Then the App Store will also showcase a series of apps to help users "positively impact their communities and the planet." And from now through April 22, Apple says it will donate $1 to the World Wildlife Fund for every purchase made with Apple Pay through Apple Stores, including the online one.

Apple announced its Earth Day 2022 measures alongside the release of its latest Environmental Progress Report.
