Apple Pay network experienced intermittent outage
Some users reported Apple Pay services were down, from Apple Cash to Apple Card, and Apple has since resolved the problem.
Apple Pay and Apple Wallet went down around 4:15 p.m. EST on Wednesday. The outage prevented certain Apple Pay transactions or payments to the Apple Card from working.
Apple's services status page briefly reflected that Apple Pay services were experiencing an outage. The status indicator flashed back and forth between issue and available until it was resolved.
AppleInsider had independently confirmed with multiple staff members in different locations across the United States that Apple Pay was experiencing problems. If a payment to Apple Card was attempted or a transfer of Apple Cash was made, an error would appear.
Apple acknowledged the issue by about 5 p.m. EST. The cause was unknown, but it could have been related to the rollout of Apple Pay Later on Tuesday to select customers.
Update 5:48 p.m. EST: Apple acknowledged that Apple Cash and Apple Card are also experiencing issues. It previously only listed Apple Pay and Wallet.
Update 6:30 p.m. EST: Apple said the issue affecting Apple Pay, Apple Cash, and Apple Card has been resolved as of 5:55 p.m. EST.
Apple did no provide a reason for the outage.
