macOS Sonoma, iOS 17 public betas launch & Apple joins Threads on the AppleInsider Podcast

By Wesley Hilliard

On this week's episode of the AppleInsider Podcast, your hosts talk about the launches of the iOS 17 and macOS Sonoma public betas, iCloud password extension coming to Windows browsers, Stephen's broken iPhone, and more!

Public betas are here

Beta season has reached a new chapter, with public betas available for everyone. While these releases are nowhere near as polished as the shipping versions will be, they aren't as bad as some betas have been before.

That said, betas should still be reserved for testing devices, despite what your hosts' personal practices may be. So, install at your own risk.

Apple continues to improve iCloud Passwords with yet another feature that adds browser extensions to third-party browsers on macOS Sonoma. This is yet another barrier lowered that may allow more users to jump ship to Apple's password solution.

Your hosts discuss AppleCare and their close calls to breaking their Apple products. Stephen dropped his iPhone face first and didn't escape unscathed -- but AppleCare saved him from an expensive repair fee.

The show closes with a brief discussion of Threads and Apple's presence there. And finally, Bear gets a 2.0 update even as Wesley continues to commit to an all-first-party Apple app test run.
