AppleGPT, killing an Apple TV, and praising Apple Maps on the AppleInsider podcast

Apple is testing a ChatGPT-like app internally, Beats Studio Pro launched, iOS 17 Messaging features, and after 11 years, Apple Maps is finally winning over users, all on the AppleInsider podcast.

Apple has been deep into artificial intelligence and Machine Learning for years, but it doesn't have a ChatGPT clone like Microsoft and Google does — so apparently it's making one. Nicknamed "AppleGPT" by its closed user group within Apple, it hasn't yet been used for any public-facing work.

It doesn't sound like Apple to be racing to catch up with rivals, it's usually more that the company waits a few years and then drops the mic with a way of doing something that is so much better than anyone else's.

But you have to wonder if things are changing as this week, Apple's own Beats Studio Pro headphones have come out and just about totally destroyed any argument for buying Apple's own AirPods Max.

Speaking of destroying things, host Stephen Robles has managed to kill an Apple TV. It's a sad story, but also quite a short one, whereas the rise of Apple Maps turns out to have taken more than a decade.

There's also an appreciation of the new features in Messages, coming for iOS 17, and another example of how difficult it is for even tremendous apps to get noticed.
