(PRODUCT)RED Solo Loop, Braided Solo Loop now available

Last updated

On top of Apple's iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPad Air sales, (PRODUCT)RED variants of the Apple Watch Solo Loop and Braided Solo Loop bands are now available to order.

Apple announced the loop-style bands during its Apple Watch Series 6 announcement in September. The bands, which form a single loop of stretchable material, were available in a handful of colors at launch — but red variants were delayed until October.

Now, it appears, that Apple has stocked both options on its online storefront. (PRODUCT)RED Solo Loop and Braided Solo Loop are now available to order in both 40mm and 44mm sizes.

The silicone Solo Loop bands are made of a soft silione and retail for $49. The fabric Braided Solo Loop bands, which are created with 100% recycled polyester and silcione, cost $99.

Current shipping times for the Solo Loop indicate delivery in one week to two weeks, while delivery times for the braided band are currently slated for six weeks to eight weeks.

Both bands are compatible with the Apple Watch Series 4 and later.

Funny.  We picked up a Product Red Apple Watch with red Solo loop in an Apple store (by appointment) in late September.  The braided Solo loop wasn’t available then.

I never hear it mentioned any more, but all Product Red sales involve a donation to some global AIDS charity.  I'm sure there are lots of people completely unaware of this.  Apple doesn't even mention it on their site--unless you specifically search for it:  https://www.apple.com/product-red/

That’s strange. When I go to the product ordering page by pressing the Shop button for the iPhone 12/12 mini, then choose either phone, the “Choose your finish” section becomes enabled, and right there under the (PRODUCT)RED choice is the official (RED) organization’s logo and the text “ Every iPhone 12 (PRODUCT)RED purchase now contributes directly to the Global Fund to combat COVID‑19” prominently displayed. This seems like a pretty good “mention” that is going to be seen by everyone using the online ordering site to obtain a new iPhone that has a red option. Granted, the watch band (PRODUCT)RED option does not contain the blurb, but the use of the (RED) organization logo and branding are recognizable and should convey something beyond simply selecting a red colored product. Note that (RED) is a global fund raising charity, not something run by Apple. Several other product vendors participate in this charity as well.

Good catch.  My point was that Apple (and AppleInsider) appear to assume that everyone knows that (Product)RED means that money from every sale goes to a global AIDS charity.  I'm certain there are many people (perhaps a majority of consumers) who have no recollection of that.  Seems reasonable to me that Apple and other outlets would remember to include a sentence about what the heck Product Red is when they mention it in their marketing materials.  (Hint, hint AI writers).
