'Shameless' star Emmy Rossum joins Apple's 'The Crowded Room'

Forthcoming Apple TV+ anthology thriller, "The Crowded Room," adds Emmy Rossum, best known for "Shameless," and "The Day After Tomorrow."

Rossum joins the recently-announced Amanda Seyfried, and Tom Holland, in the new series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series has also signed Kornel Mundruczo as director for the whole ten-episode first season. It's being written by long-time film and TV writer Akiva Goldsman, most recently involved in creating "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds."

Apple says the series is "a gripping anthology" that explores "the true and inspirational stories of those who have struggled and learned to successfully live with mental illness." Overall, the first season is also described as "a captivating thriller."

No production or streaming date has yet been announced.
