In an attempt to consolidate services and alleviate confusion, WarnerMedia announces plans to retire HBO Go and rebrand HBO Now as simply "HBO."
Following a one-month extension, HBO Now is no longer available to use on the second-generation and third-generation Apple TV, leaving users with the prospect of upgrading to a newer model or performing a workaround to continue accessing the service.
HBO has inched back the choice to pull HBO Now and HBO Go apps from older Apple TV products in late April to give users more time to make updates while dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.
As users report being unable to access DRM-protected YouTube content on their third generation Apple TV, HBO has officially announced that it is abandoning early Apple TV models too. But, you can still stream the content to the set-top with an iPhone and AirPlay.
Apple appears to be on the cusp of signing an Apple TV+ content deal with RLP & Company, helmed by former HBO chief executive Richard Plepler.
