Apple on Monday officially took the wraps off the next major software release for Mac, a redesigned and enhanced version of the OS X platform dubbed "Yosemite," bringing much of the cleaner, modern look of iOS to the Mac.
As members of the press file into the Moscone Center for the Worldwide Developers Conference keynote Monday, one reporter snapped a picture of a pair of iMacs onstage at the event, appearing to show off the desktop for Apple's next major Mac operating system update, expected to be called "Yosemite."
Trademark filings discovered in Trinidad and Tobago, a popular place for Apple to secretly file future naming assets, show the company's next OS X 10.10 operating system may be named OS X Sequoia, OS X Mojave, OS X Sonoma, and OS X Ventura. A WWDC banner highlighting the famous El Capitan monolith, however, points to "OS X Yosemite."
Testing of Apple's anticipated next-generation operating systems — iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 — continues along at a steady clip, new traffic data shows, ahead of the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference, where both products are expected to be unveiled.
Though OS X 10.9 Mavericks is only a few days old, Apple is unsurprisingly hard at work on the next major version of its Mac operating system, with traffic from the unreleased software steadily growing over the last month.
