New iPads are coming: Get up to $250 for your old iPad trade-in plus a 10% cash bonus this week

Last updated

Thinking of purchasing one of the 2016 iPad models that Apple is rumored to be introducing next week? Then there's no better time than now to lock in a cash trade-in offer of up to $250 for your old iPad, plus you'll get an additional 10% cash bonus and up to 4 weeks to drop your device in the mail.

For the next several days, Gazelle is offering AppleInsider readers an exclusive 10% cash bonus on all iPad trade-ins worth $50 or more. The bonus will automatically appear as part of your trade-in offer near the end of Gazelle's price lock process when using the links in this article (and those in our our live Trade-In Cash Payout Guide).

Gazelle — the industry's leading electronics buyback service and a long-time AppleInsider sponsor — helps consumers turn their old iPhones, iPads and MacBooks into cash in just a matter of minutes (instructions below), without the hassle of managing an eBay auction or braving a Craigslist handoff in a seedy corner of town.

10% Cash Bonus on all iPads Valued at $50+

The 10% trade-in bonus is in addition to the trade-in payout rates seen below. As of press time, Gazelle was paying out up to $250 for iPad Air 2 trade-ins, up to $180 for original iPad Airs, up to $165 for 4th Gen iPads, up to $100 for 3rd Gen iPads, and up to $80 for 2nd Gen iPads. It's also paying up to $230 for iPad mini 4, up to $165 for iPad mini 3, up to $145 for iPad mini 2 and up to $80 for the original iPad mini.

The 10% cash bonus is valid until March 27th, but the trade-in payouts that Gazelle offers on iPads are subject to — and likely will — fluctuate on a regular basis. Typically, trade-in rates begin to decline shortly after Apple introduces new models, making early price locks a key to achieving the best possible payouts. However, customers can always come back and lock in a new price to supersede their old price lock in the rare event that payouts actually increase on old iPads following next week's Apple event.

How it Works

To begin, you first lock in your trade-in price by visiting Gazelle's website, where you will be asked to assess the physical and operational condition of your device by rating it in one of three tiers —  broken, good, or flawless. The ratings include factors like whether the device's screen is cracked or if it has ever been damaged by liquids.

Gazelle box

A few days after locking in your price quote, a pre-paid shipping box will show up on your doorstep. Gazelle gives a generous 30-day grace period from the time you lock in your trade-in offer to the time you need to pack the device — and only the device — securely in the box and drop it in the mail. Alternatively, you can use your own shipping box and simply print and affix a pre-paid shipping label from Gazelle's website.

Gazelle handles all trade-in inspections itself, doesn't nitpick over the trade-in value of devices that arrive in good working order, and will even completely wipe your device of data before passing it along to its new owner.

Once Gazelle receives your old handset or tablet, the company will issue a check within 10 business days. You can alternately choose to be paid more quickly via PayPal, receive a 5 percent bonus by accepting payment in the form of an Amazon Gift Card, or donate the proceeds entirely to charity.
