Apple Watch Ultra owners will need to upgrade to watchOS 9.0.1

Update Apple Watch Ultra to watchOS 9.0.1

Apple has released watchOS 9.0.1 for Apple Watch Ultra to address bugs and performance issues that may affect day-one adopters.

The Apple Watch Ultra arrives in customers' hands on Friday, September 23, and it will need an immediate update. It isn't clear what the update addresses, but if users want to avoid service issues or other setup problems, it should be the first thing they do.

The watchOS 9.0.1 update is available for the Apple Watch Ultra only. Owners of other Apple Watch models will not find the update prompt.

If the update isn't automatically installed after setup, perform the update manually.

To update an Apple Watch:

  1. Open the Watch app on iPhone
  2. Tap "General"
  3. Tap "Software Update"
  4. Select the update option and place the Apple Watch on a charger

The update will begin when the Apple Watch is on the charger and has more than 50% charge.

Apple released a similar day-one update for the iPhone 14 lineup to address a bug with setting up cellular via an eSIM. Apple has not provided specific details about what this watchOS update addresses.
