Apple rolls out release candidate builds for iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6

New beta of iOS 16.6 now available

Apple has brought out the release candidate builds of iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6, with developers given a last test of the builds ahead of a formal release.

Developers taking part in the testing program can obtain the latest builds by visiting the Apple Developer Center or updating their iPhone or iPad through the Settings app. Public beta versions generally appear a short time after the developer versions, and participants can sign up through the Apple Beta Software Program website.

The release candidate developer betas for iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6 follow the fifth from July 10, which came after the fourth from June 27.

The new RC build is number 20G75, replacing the fifth build, 20G5070a.

Apple doesn't provide details of what to find within the builds, making them more a performance and bug fix release than one with features. It is simultaneously beta-testing its milestone releases, iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, which are full of features and due this fall.

AppleInsider and Apple strongly suggest users don't install beta operating systems or other beta software on "mission-critical" or primary devices, as there is the small chance of issues that could result in the loss of data. Testers should instead use secondary or non-essential hardware and ensure they have sufficient backups of their critical data at all times.
