PayPal brings Tap to Pay on iPhone support for its business users

To use Tap to Pay, users just hold their iPhones together before starting the transaction

Following its addition of Apple Pay support in September 2023, PayPal has now announced that its US users now have the option to use Tap to Pay. Unlike the slow rollout of Apple Pay support, the company says that Tap to Pay is now US-wide.

"As consumers increasingly turn to non-cash options to pay, small businesses are looking for affordable and flexible ways to offer their customers more payment choice without being tied down to a fixed location," said PayPal's Nitin Prabhu in a statement, "With Tap to Pay on iPhone, millions of small businesses that use Venmo and PayPal Zettle can now start accepting contactless card and digital wallet payments nearly anywhere, directly on their iPhones, which can expand their customer base and drive incremental sales."

Users can accept contactless cards and digital wallets directly on their iPhones. Previously, firms such as Zettle manufactured their own separate devices for taking payments.

PayPal says that users can add taxes to the amounts they're charging, they can send receipts or issue refunds, and also accept tips. While the company does not say how long it takes funds to reach the user, it does say they "will settle quickly into a business's Venmo or PayPal Zettle account."

"Enabling Tap to Pay on iPhone with our Venmo business profile was really easy, said Elaine Bailey, the founder of The Cheesecake Queen, and who was presumably involved in a beta test. "It's especially handy when I have a long line of customers and need to get payments processed quickly."

Apple first announced Tap to Pay in February 2022. Since then, it has been steadily adding companies and countries to the feature.
