iPadOS 17.5 now available with support for new iPads

iPadOS 17.5 is now available

Apple has released iPadOS 17.5 with no user-facing updates beyond support for new iPad models and their feature set.

All eyes are on the EU and Apple's compliance with the DMA, so recent operating system updates have not had many features focused on the iPad. However, Apple did introduce new iPads and accessories during a video event on May 7, which means iPadOS 17.5 includes support for those products and features.

Everyone else gets iPadOS 17.5, but there aren't any user-facing features. The usual bug fixes and performance improvements are cited in the release notes.

The iPadOS 17.5 betas did reveal that the OLED iPad Pro models were incoming.

The other features released with Apple's operating system updates are focused on the iPhone. iOS 17.5 includes support for Web Distribution in the EU and adds a new feature called Repair State.

How to update to iPadOS 17.5

iPad users with automatic updates turned on don't have to do anything. The update should be installed overnight.

For those who want to update manually or if the automatic update doesn't occur for some reason, it can be performed from Settings.

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap "General"
  3. Tap "Software Update"
  4. The software update will appear here when available

Updates are released on a rolling basis and aren't always immediately available. The new iPad models should ship with iPadOS 17.5 installed or will require a day-one update.
