On this week's episode of the AppleInsider podcast, your hosts highlight what to expect from Apple in 2022 including a new MacBook Air, Apple Silicon Mac Pro, "iPhone 14" with hole-punch camera, and more.
Earlier this week Apple set a new record to become the world's first company to boast a $3 trillion market cap. Despite their stock decreasing since its height of $182.86 analyst Katy Huberty raised her Apple target to $200.
In his latest "Power On" newsletter for Bloomberg, Mark Gurman laid out some of the hardware we can expect from Apple in 2022. Apple's successor to the M1 chip, "M2" will be seen in a redesigned MacBook Air and we could see an iPad with wireless charging. Our hosts discuss the MacBook Air redesign could mean for its iconic tapered body style, and the feasibility of wireless charging on iPad.
This year will also mark the two-year transition cycle to Apple Silicon as stated by Tim Cook. Apple desktops yet to make the transition include a high-end Mac mini, 27-inch iMac, and Mac Pro. Gurman claims this new model could sport a 40-core CPU and 128-core GPU.
Leaker @dylandkt on Twitter has corroborated a hole-punch style camera for the upcoming "iPhone 14" models. This coincides with a report from Ming-Chi Kuo that claims Face ID and other sensors will move underneath the iPhone display.
In a recent interview with What Hi-Fi, Apple VP Gary Geaves discussed the development of AirPods and eluded to bandwidth constraints when using Bluetooth. We discuss the possibilities of Apple creating a propriety wireless connection, possibly "AirPlay 3" that could allow AirPods to utilize lossless audio from Apple Music.
We round out the show with a follow-up on iCloud Drive folder sharing, new MagSafe accessories for iPhone, and Google's new "Better Together" initiative.
