Apple opens application process for 350 WWDC scholarships

Last updated

As it has done in most other years, Apple has started taking WWDC scholarship applications for attendees that could not otherwise afford to attend the $1500 event.

To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must build a Swift playground with documentation to showcase ingenuity, and answer a few Apple-provided questions with written responses.

The playground must be in English, 25MB or less in size, able to be consumed in three minutes, and built in Swift Playgrounds on the iPad or Xcode on macOS.

The application package must include a description of the playground discussing technologies that are used. Optional information that Apple is requesting includes plans after WWDC for sharing the gained knowledge, or any need financial assistance for travel.

Submitters must be 13 years of age or older, have a free or paid Apple Developer Program membership, and provide proof of enrollment in an accredited course of study or a science and technology educational organization.

Applicants will be judged on technical accomplishment, creativity of ideas, and content of written responses. Up to 350 scholarships will be awarded.

The submission process has already opened. The deadline for submissions is Sunday April 1 at 5:00 PM Pacific time. Applicants will be informed if they have been granted a scholarship on April 20, and must confirm acceptance by April 27.

The normal slate of events are expected at the event running June 4 through June 8, including debuts of iOS 12, macOS 10.14, and new watchOS and tvOS versions as well.

Apple will host over 100 technical and design-focused sessions presented by Apple engineers. Hands-on labs will guide developers through new features, directly from the engineers who helped build the latest advances in Apple platforms.

A calendar of events is not yet available.
