With the seventh developer beta of Xcode 26, users have gained the ability to add Claude accounts and use OpenAI's GPT-5 for vibe coding.

Following the discovery of code-level references pointing towards Claude integration, Apple has officially unveiled the feature with Xcode 26 developer beta 7. Developers now have the option to use Claude Sonnet 4 after adding their existing paid Claude account to Xcode, through a new setting in the app's intelligence panel.

Thursday's Xcode 26 developer beta also includes support for OpenAI's latest model, GPT-5, in addition to the existing GPT-4.1 compatibility. Xcode 26 has offered ChatGPT integration since it was unveiled at WWDC, which allowed users to connect third-party LLMs to Xcode.

The company has now introduced GPT-5 support, in an attempt to help developers write code, documentation, tests, and more. Third-party AI models can also be used to fix bugs or errors, among other things.

According to Apple's release notes, users of ChatGPT in Xcode 26 now have access to two new model choices: "GPT-5" and "GPT-5 (Reasoning)."

"GPT-5" is meant to deliver quick, high-quality results, and it should work well for most coding needs. Meanwhile, "GPT-5 (Reasoning)" is better suited for difficult and complex coding tasks, as it takes more time to process information before generating a response, which is usually more accurate.

Apple is no longer treating AI as a self-contained project siloed within its walls. Instead, it's beginning to view outside partnerships as a necessary part of keeping up with rapid advancements in generative AI. With Xcode 26, developers are also able to use cloud-based models through API keys or local models according to their needs, from providers other than OpenAI and Anthropic.
