Adobe releases new Camera Raw and DNG Converter versions, Lightroom 5.7.1 update coming soon

Adobe on Wednesday announced availability of updates to Adobe Camera Raw 8.7.1 and DNG Converter 8.7.1, bringing additional support for cameras and lenses, while patching minor bugs found in previous versions of the software.

With the latest software updates, Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 and Photoshop CS6 users will see expanded camera support for Sony's ILCE-A7M2 camera, as well as a bug fixes dealing with a chromatic aberration issue specific to Samsung's NX1 camera. The updates will be included in an anticipated Lightroom 5.7.1 update within the next week.

New lens profiles were also added to Camera Raw, covering Canon EF, Leica M, Nikon F and Sony mounts.

Lens profile support in Adobe Camera Raw 8.7.1:

Canon EF

  • Canon EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM
  • Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM
  • Tokina AT-X 12-28 F4 PRO DX

Leica M

  • Zeiss Distagon T* 1,4/35 ZM

Nikon F

  • Tokina AT-X 12-28 F4 PRO DX
  • Tokina AT-X 70-200mm F4 PRO FX VCM-S

Sony Alpha

  • Tokina AT-X 166 PRO DX II 11-16 F2.8

Adobe Camera Raw 8.7.1 is a free update for current Photoshop CC subscribers and Photoshop CS6 owners. DNG Converter 8.7.1 can be downloaded directly from Adobe's website.

Adobe did not announce what new features, if any, the upcoming Lightroom 5.7.1 update contains, though it is assumed both ACR 8.7.1 and DNG Converter 8.7.1 are to be included in the release. The company most recently issued Lightroom 5.7 in November with a tool for importing photos from Apple's soon to be discontinued iPhoto and Aperture.

Adobe Creative Cloud subscriptions are offered in tiers. The Creative Cloud Photography Plan is priced at $9.99 per month and includes Photoshop CC, Lightroom and access to Adobe's mobile apps suite, while Creative Cloud Complete comes in at for $49.99 per month and adds Illustrator, cloud features, access to the ProSite portfolio website, Typekit desktop and web fonts and 20 GB of cloud storage.

Finally, new users can try out Lightroom free for 30 days before buying.
