Dropbox gets Messages app, new widget & more for iOS 10

Later on Tuesday Dropbox will release a major iOS update, adding features like a new widget and a Messages app for iOS 10, and the beginnings of better multitasking support on iPads.

The Messages app will let people share Dropbox files within a conversation, inserting the content into the chat itself. For users of the core app, meanwhile, the widget will support actions from the iOS lockscreen like creating files, browsing or uploading them, and scanning.

Some other improvements will include the ability to sign PDFs from within the main app, and notifications whenever someone updates a file a user is currently viewing. Tapping a reload button will refresh the file with any tweaks the other person made.

iPad owners with iOS 9 or better will be able to use picture-in-picture for any videos they're watching. The company noted though that it's preparing a follow-up update which will support Split View, finally allowing Dropbox to run side-by-side alongside other iOS apps.

The Dropbox iOS app runs on any device with iOS 8 or later.
