App Roundup: Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2, Strava, Obscura 2, Cardhop, more!

Many new apps and updates to existing releases are pushed to the App Store and other digital marketplaces every day, and it's hard to keep track of all of them. AppleInsider has gathered together some of the highlight macOS and iOS software updates and new apps that surfaced in the last week.

This week's app highlights include the Mac release of Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2, Strava updates its subscription models, Obscura 2 is free via an Apple Store app offer, and updates to Cardhop, Wirecast, and MAMP Pro.

Strava

Strava is one of the more popular fitness tracking apps, geared primarily (but not exclusively) towards running, cycling, and swimming. Users can check routes and maps, analyze performance, and compete and compare against other people.

Strava's creators have switched up its subscription model, renaming Premium to "Summit" while introducing cheaper options for people who don't need every feature. Specifically there are now three "Packs": Training, Analysis, and Safety, which individually cost $2.99 per month or $23.99 per year. Summit is $7.99 per month or $59.99 per year.

The Training Pack incorporates things like live performance data, custom goals, race analysis, training plans, filtered leaderboards, and segment efforts. The Analysis Pack offers workout analysis, fitness and freshness, live segments, power analysis, and relative effort, while the Safety Pack is limited mostly to Beacon and personal heatmaps.

Obscura 2

If you want to get hold of the popular photography app Obscura 2 for free, now's your chance. For the next two months, you can pick up the app at no cost, by claiming the offer through the Apple Store app.

The photography app offers extensive control over your shots, including control over the flash and shutter time, shoots in RAW, JPEG, Live Photo, and HEIC formats, and even has a bunch of filters and other pro filters to up your photo game.

You have until September 25 to acquire the app through the Apple Store app, then it will revert to its normal price of $4.99.

Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2

Feral Interactive has shipped Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 on macOS. The port of the Warner Bros and TT Games sequel puts fan-favourite super heroes and super villains against each other in a brand new adventure, fighting across the time-tossed city of Chronopolis.

Featuring 18 locations from Marvel properties to explore, players can choose characters from across a number of franchises, including Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and others. Following on from the first game, the sequel introduces a new time manipulation mechanic to allow specific characters to change the state of in-game elements, helping players discover a variety of secret items.

The game will allow up to four players to play split-screen through the brick-based adventure, both in co-op and in a battle mode, which offers a series of themed challenges and battle arenas.

Get it for macOS: $29.99. Requires macOS 10.13.5 or later, with minimum specifications requiring a 1.8GHz Intel Core i3 processor, 8GB of RAM, 1GB Nvidia 650M, 2GB AMD Radeon M290, or Intel Iris Pro 5200 graphics, and 25GB of storage.

Cardhop

The latest iteration of Flexbit's contact management app adds support for Instagram, allowing the Facebook image-based social network to be added to the contact fields as a social profile. Another image-based update, the app will now show options to crop a picture when selecting an image for a contact from a file.

Dragging and dropping a contact into another app will drop the contact name and a link to the contact. Also, when a contact is selected, pressing return will start editing the listing.

There are also various fixes and improvements in version 1.1.3 of the app, including one where attempts to call contacts in Skype without using a country code would fail.

Wirecast 10.0

Telestream's live video streaming production software's latest update adds a number of Facebook-related elements, including the ability to crosspost to multiple pages, and live streaming on Facebook accompanied by a new Facebook API.

The Wirecast Restream and Live Captions technical preview introduces cloud-based features for restreaming a single live stream to Telestream Cloud, and on to several destinations There is also the option to add live transcription closed captions to a live stream.

Lastly, Microsoft Stream Live is a new destination in the output settings for the tool.

MAMP PRO 5.0

The Pro edition of the free local web development server environment has moved to version 5.0, adding more features to help web developers finish their projects. For WordPress developers, they can now publish their WordPress hosts to a live hosting server with a few clicks, and to import an existing WordPress site from a live server to the local version.

The same importing and exporting ability can also be used to migrate a WordPress site from one server to another, using the local version to test everything works on the new server settings before pushing it to the new location.

The ability to take snapshots of each hosted site for quick restores, tidying up of the Hostlist, easier WordPress installation, MySQL 5.7 support, integration with Redis caching server, and a redesigned toolbar are among other additions to the latest version.
