Apple is allegedly testing out the rumored third-generation iPhone SE in India, and may also be shaking down a pair of iPads for launch in early 2022.
Apple is anticipated to be preparing a number of products for launch in a spring special event, which could occur in March or April. While rumors and speculation point to the iPhone SE 3 and an updated iPad Air among the potential launches, it is claimed Apple is now testing that hardware ahead of a launch.
According to industry sources of 91mobiles, Apple has imported a trio of iPhone SE models into India, using model numbers A2595, A2783, and A2784. Data allegedly collected about the import supposedly states the model has a price of Rs 23,000 ($307.55).
The same sources mention iPads were imported as well, with the A2588 and A2589 thought to be an updated iPad Air. The same import data points to price tags of between $500 and $700.
Lastly, a budget iPad is also apparently in the testing list, bearing model numbers A2757 and A2761. Again, the source data says the tablets are priced at around $300.
It is plausible for Apple to be importing new models to India for testing ahead of a release, especially considering Apple's effort to expand manufacturing in the country. The model numbers are also plausible, as they were all featured in Eurasian Economic Commission database filings in January.
However, the publication of the report doesn't have the greatest track record for leaks, as it has previously made many mistakes about device support for iOS.
The iPhone SE is rumored to gain 5G connectivity alongside expected specification bumps, such as to newer A-series generations, but without overhauling the design of the device. An upgraded appearance is expected, but not until 2023 at the earliest.
The iPad Air 5 is anticipated to share the same appearance as the iPad Air 4, with dubious rumors hinting at a potential OLED display. As part of the specifications bump, it can gain 5G connectivity, the A15 Bionic chip, a FaceTime HD camera upgrade to a 12-megapixel ultra-wide version, and a rear flash.
