Apple TV+ Jon Stewart show loses head writer to Disney

Apple TV+ show "The Problem with Jon Stewart" is to lose Chelsea Devantez, its head writer, who will now work exclusively for Disney's 20th Television division.

"The Problem with Jon Stewart" is clearly retaining its star and is also keeping its showrunner, Brinda Adhikari, but it has lost its head writer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chelsea Devantez has signed a deal with Disney to write and produce comedy in an exclusive, multi-year deal. She will also be supervising other writers, though it's not said that she will become a showrunner.

Devantez previously worked on Disney's 20th TV show "Bless This Mess," a comedy that ran for two seasons on ABC.

"Chelsea is a tremendous talent who brings perspective and nuance to everything she does," 20th TV president Karey Burke told The Hollywood Reporter, "from her popular and hilarious Celebrity Book Club podcast, to head writing 'The Problem With Jon Stewart'."

"Beyond our admiration for her abilities as a writer and a comic, we also love that she is a champion of underrepresented voices," continued Burke. "We're excited to support her vision through this new, exclusive deal and are grateful to be in business together."

"I've worked with 20th on several wonderful projects," said Devantez, "but when we collaborated on a pilot based on my childhood growing up broke with a single mom in the Southwest, I knew I'd found my creative home."

"I can't wait to bring them more projects that center working class women's stories, authentic female friendship," she continued, "and if all else fails, a slideshow of cheugy NFTs."

"The Problem with Jon Stewart" returns to Apple TV+ for a new series on March 3. This run will consist of four episodes that air weekly.
