Lululook has produced a few iPad stands that take advantage of the many magnets in the rear iPad casing, but the iPad mini 6 Magnetic Stand is the best iteration yet.
There are a multitude of cases, stands, and accessories on the market targeted toward iPad users. However, none have the simplicity, design, and price point of the Lululook iPad mini 6 Magnetic Stand.
Several magnets in the rear of the iPad mini 6 casing allow accessories like Apple's Smart Folio to attach without engulfing the iPad. The Lululook Magnetic Stand uses these magnets to attach the iPad mini and display it like a small floating monitor.
Lululook iPad mini 6 Magnetic Stand Design
The stand itself is a very simple piece of aluminum construction. The overall construction mimics Apple's iMac stand and even has an iMac-like cutout in the neck for cable passthrough.
There is a large "foot" with a rubber strip for grip on the bottom meant to anchor the stand and prevent it from tipping over. The hinge that attaches the magnetic base to the stand also takes cues from Apple's design book.
The magnetic base is a uniform piece of aluminum with a rubber material where the iPad mini is placed. A camera cutout in the corner allows the iPad mini camera to still function even when on the stand.
There is some resistance when rotating the magnetic base from portrait to landscape, but you only need one hand to turn it when the stand is on a sturdy surface. The tilt angle can be adjusted from -20-degrees to 200-degrees, which gives plenty of options for how you may use the stand.
With the iPad mini in place, the stand doesn't wobble or feel unbalanced except at the most extreme -20-degree position. The stand is very light overall, and we even found ourselves transporting the entire ensemble from room to room rather than removing the iPad from the stand.
While that level of portability is handy in the home, like taking the stand from the office to the kitchen for lunch, it isn't necessary. We'd argue that the foot could have been a bit denser so there was less chance of tipping it over, though the probability of that is low.
There are two color options, but they are very similar. They are meant to mimic Apple's silver and space gray, both light shades in color, but we'd have preferred a darker option.
Using the Lululook iPad mini 6 Magnetic Stand
We've placed the Lululook stand directly below the Studio Display in our office and use Universal Control to interact with the iPad mini. The stand has been an excellent accessory for several reasons: it matches the Apple design aesthetic, presents the display cleanly, and the ease of attaching and removing the iPad is a boon.
Generally, we use the iPad mini in portrait orientation to display what music is playing or scroll through a Twitter feed. But, when it is needed to reference a video, it can easily be rotated to landscape without a second thought.
The stand is also sturdy enough that taps and swipes on the touch display don't cause the stand to move. We're even able to write on the screen with the Apple Pencil without issue.
When it's time to leave the office for the day, it is easily grabbed free from the stand one-handed. A simple grip with your hand and downward pressure from your thumb will release it from the pull of the magnets.
The usability of a stand, especially for an iPad, is the ease of attaching and removing the device. We've tested many stands with clamps, shelves, and other mechanisms and haven't found one as satisfying to use as the Lululook stand.
This design simplicity is only in the iPad mini stand, however, since the company's larger iPad Pro stand uses a two-handed operation to remove the large iPad.
This is likely because of the size of the iPad combined with the number of magnets in use. That being said, it continues to be used alongside the magnetic iPad mini stand on our desk since both are the optimal stand for our work setup.
We've also tested the stand in other spaces, like the living room couch-side table. The small size of the iPad mini and the compact footprint of the stand is a perfect combination for this tiny corner of the room.
Our only major complaint about the Lululook stand's use case is its lack of packability — the ability to stow it away in a bag for travel. We'd love to take this stand with us, but it is meant to be a stationary desktop stand.
Also, the rigidity of the stand is likely what makes it work great for an iPad. However, we'd love to see a version fold up like the Satechi R1 aluminum hinge stand.
Should you buy the Lululook iPad mini 6 Magnetic Stand?
If you own an iPad mini 6 and want to use it on your desk, on a side table, or in your kitchen, we highly recommend the Lululook iPad mini stand. There are a few other stands with magnetic attachment options, but they are much more expensive for about the same utility.
We love that the iPad mini sits flush with the stand with no ugly overhanging lip or other protrusion. The design will make your iPad mini look like a tiny iMac on your desktop.
