Govee Smart LED H6005 review: creative smart lighting for less

Transform your basic lamp into smart lighting with a Govee Smart LED H6005 bulb

Govee Smart LED H6005

4.0 / 5

The Govee Smart LED H6005 bulb can transform your ordinary lamp into app-enabled smart lighting — for cheap.

When it comes to smart lighting, Govee has plenty of options to choose from. They have an eye-catching lineup of lights that deliver pleasant ambient lighting, such as the H6159 strip lights. However, you might want to avoid crawling into small corners of your space to install strip lights.

If that is the case for you, the H6005 Smart LED lightbulb may be a good option. It is a low-cost and straightforward smart lighting solution, but there is a catch. It does not support smart home systems like Apple HomeKit.

Despite the lack of smart home system integration, the H6005 Smart LED lightbulb has over 27,000 reviews, including some users who rave about its quality for the price.

Govee Smart LED H6005 bulb — fun and functional

Installing the H6005 Smart LED bulb is as simple as screwing a lightbulb into a standard lightbulb socket. Since it can fit into any standard light socket, you can use these lightbulbs to turn traditional lamps you already own into smart lamps.

Unlike regular bulbs that can only emit one color, the H6005 bulb is highly customizable with the Govee Home app. Once you add the H6005 bulb as a new device in the Govee Home app, you can change the colors and lighting effects to suit your mood or occasion.

For instance, you can set up the H6005 bulb to emit standard white balance light during work hours. After you finish work, you can change the bulb to any color you want from the color wheel. For added fun, sync your H6005 bulb to music or choose another lighting effect from the app.

The H6005 bulb connects to the Govee Home app via Bluetooth, making it easy to adjust your light settings remotely. Additionally, you can group different Govee lights in the app, set timers, and simultaneously control multiple lights.

Say you work from home and tend to stay at your desk past working hours. You can set up the light to turn off at a specific time. When the light powers off, it can signal that you have arrived at the end of your workday.

It may not work for everyone, but this subtle visual cue can effectively reinforce work-life balance.

Despite these practical features, the H6005 bulb does not support Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, or Google Assistant. So if you need smart home system support, this will not work.

The H6005 bulb in this review was bought in December 2020. It has been well used and still faithfully powers on to this day. It remains highly responsive to all timers and lighting effects, including syncing to music. Look at the H6005 Smart LED lightbulb if you need thrifty smart lighting.

Been using the Phillips Hue lighting system for 5 years. The updates over the years has made this, in my opinion, the premier smart home lighting system.

At this point, I'm not buying ANY "smart" devices that don't support HomeKit. Or at least Matter. Centralizing all smart equipment in one app is a lofty goal at present, but we'll wait to upgrade until these manufacturers do the work to enable HomeKit on the products. If I'm not alone, they're going to realize they're losing revenue and will adopt the HomeKit standard.

Same.  I'll accept Matter compatibility when it stabilizes more, but prefer HomeKit for now.
