Globular Cluster is known for making comfort mods for VR headsets, and its version for Apple Vision Pro brings a variety of fits and customization to the controversially heavy headset.

I'll get this out of the way right off the bat — I hate having too much stuff piled up on my head. It's a weird problem to have as someone who loves Apple Vision Pro.

The thing is, I fell in love with the Solo Knit Band right away. It's basically the minimum amount of headwear to keep the Apple Vision Pro attached without making things uncomfortable.

That's not the case for a lot of people, so third-party manufacturers began building solutions to help alleviate the weight. I've already tested the ResMed Kontor Head Strap, and it was great and accomplished the goal using little weights.

Now I've got the Globular Cluster CMA1 Comfort Mod for Apple Vision Pro. Yes, it's a mouthful, but it accomplishes its goal with lots of surface area, which is a problem for me.

Globular Cluster CMA1 Comfort Mod review: Fighting weight with surface area

I personally can't use either of these solutions for any length of time without feeling like I'm inside a giant helmet. That said, I was still able to evaluate how well they distributed the weight of the Apple Vision Pro and their comfort.

My issue isn't comfort, it's how many pressure points there are on the top of my head at a time. Anyway, enough of that, let's dive into this strap and how it works.

Globular Cluster CMA1 Comfort Mod for Apple Vision Pro review: Design

Instead of counterweights, the CMA1 deals with the Apple Vision Pro through sheer surface area. It has a forehead pad, crown pad, and a top strap that all interconnect in a way that takes nearly all of the weight off of your cheekbones.

Since Apple's proprietary strap-attachment system was likely too complex or too expensive, Globular Cluster opted for little grabby arms. These arms securely wrap around the band in front of the Audio Pods, leaving the connectors free.

Globular Cluster CMA1 Comfort Mod review: Plenty of customization

This does allow for one odd configuration if you're up for it. Attach the CMA1 and the Solo Knit Band for a nearly encompassing head wrap that can be used while lying down.

Needless to say, I won't be doing that, but it is possible.

Each of the components is swappable, so the user can get the perfect fit and material. There are pads made of fabric, faux leather, and even this heavy, rubbery texture for the crown.

The heavy rubbery one acts more as a counterweight and prevents slippage. I assume it's meant more for users who expect to move around a lot or just enjoy that particular material.

There's also an included alternative leather face pad that magnetically attaches to the Apple Vision Pro light seal. That means you're able to have the same material, which is easier to clean, all around the headset.

Globular Cluster has thought of everything too, as the magnetic attachment can be removed in favor of Velcro dots for a thinner fit.

I preferred the gray fabric pads in my testing, as they seemed the most natural for comfort. The little strap across the top is optional, but it can help further distribute weight across the top of the user's head.

Putting the CMA1 on Apple Vision Pro isn't exactly straightforward. You have to take everything off the Apple Vision Pro first, including the light seal.

It hooks on, then you swing it back, open up the adjustment dial, and place it on your head. A few turns and some wiggling, and it'll be fit to your head without much fuss.

It takes some adjusting to get the Apple Vision Pro set perfectly into your line of sight. I always seemed to have it a bit too high up, which interfered with Optic ID.

There's also the ability to remove the light seal entirely. Some people like doing this, but it's not entirely advisable since the passthrough won't perfectly blend into the real-world environment in your periphery.

Funny enough, the fit is closer to that of the PSVR 2, but for some reason, I can handle that versus the CMA1. It may be due to the large pad in the back and the distribution of the weight.

Don't get me wrong, the CMA1 accomplishes its goal. It is remarkable how it makes the Apple Vision Pro feel much lighter simply through weight distribution.

Too bad I can't personally take advantage of the system. It would likely be better for my neck anyway.

Custom comfort at an incredible value

The Globular Cluster CMA1 Comfort Mod for Apple Vision Pro is a well-made head strap that's also relatively inexpensive. It's currently discounted, seemingly permanently, to $70, which is nearly half the price of the other strap I tested.

Globular Cluster CMA1 Comfort Mod review: Balancing value and comfort

If you own an Apple Vision Pro, and can tolerate wearing a motorcycle helmet, it is certainly worth at least trying the CMA1. It's well thought out with its many wear and customization options, and is truly comfortable.

For me personally, beyond the fit, I just prefer the no-fuss nature of the Solo Knit Band. Putting on the CMA1 was definitely more of a process each time I wanted to use Apple Vision Pro.

Then there's storage. The CMA1 isn't exactly a small unit, so any purpose-built Apple Vision Pro travel case won't store this giant strap.

Beyond those little issues, it's a good product at a good price for the niche market.

Globular Cluster CMA1 Comfort Mod for Apple Vision Pro - Pros

  • Plenty of customization and wear options
  • Effectively makes Apple Vision Pro feel much lighter
  • Offers light seal-free usage mode
  • Takes all of the weight off of the user's face, cheeks
  • Competitively priced

Globular Cluster CMA1 Comfort Mod for Apple Vision Pro - Cons

  • A large setup not easy to store or pack for travel
  • Can be tough to get the exact fit needed for Optic ID to operate normally

Rating 4.5 out of 5

The CMA1 is a near-perfect head strap for Apple Vision Pro. However, I wish it could attach via the native adapter.

There's also just something particularly awkward about how it is worn that makes it more of a setup process versus other head straps.
