After years of waiting, Spotify Premium users can at last stream in lossless audio — a feature Apple Music has offered since 2021.
On Wednesday, Spotify announced that it would begin rolling out lossless audio to its Spotify Premium subscribers. The company says Premium users will get a notification in Spotify when lossless listening becomes available to them.
Spotify Lossless enables users to stream tracks in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC quality. It is rolling out for mobile, desktop, and tablet.
It's also coming to devices that support Spotify Connect. This includes products from brands like Sony, Bose, Samsung, Sennheiser, and more; support for additional devices will roll out in October.
To enable Lossless, head to the Settings & Privacy section of your profile. Under Media Quality, you can customize your Lossless settings.
Keep in mind, you'll need to do this on each device you want to use Lossless with. Spotify also points out that to get the best experience, you should use high-end wired headphones or a Spotify Connect device.
Lossless is rolling out in "select markets" starting on Wednesday, September 10, and continuing through October. Users in Australia, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, the US, and the UK are already starting to get access.
Apple has beaten Spotify to the punch by more than four years. Apple Music gained lossless audio capabilities in June 2021.
