Desktop Mac users will have to wait until 2026 for updates, with M5 versions of the Mac mini and Mac Studio still rumored to be months away from release.

Apple's initial rollout of the M5 Apple Silicon lineup has started, but so far it has only reached one model of Mac. For Apple's desktop Mac selection, there will be a few months to wait before seeing any other model refreshes.

In Tuesday's report about the low-cost MacBook rumor, Mark Gurman for Bloomberg writes that there will be multiple models arriving in early 2026. That roadmap includes a refresh of the Mac mini line to include M5 and M5 Pro variants.

At the same time, the report adds that the Mac Studio will also arrive with M5 Max and M5 Ultra variants.

This isn't entirely new news, but it should at least allow desktop Mac users to breathe easy that they haven't been forgotten about.

A well-established timeline

One leaker detailed to AppleInsider in October a prospective timeline for Mac mini and Mac Studio updates. That info wasbased on macOS Tahoe, that effectively provided a full roadmap for Apple's Mac lineup for the next year.

Identifiers for the J873s and J873g are thought to be for new models of Mac mini. Identifiers J775c and J775d are expected to be for the Mac Studio.

Another identifier, J833ct, is also thought to be an updated iMac.

If Apple follows the previous generation's releases, we can expect a Mac mini with the M5 and M5 Pro. The Mac Studio should ship in M5 Max and M5 Ultra varieties.

The identifiers were seemingly linked to the release of macOS 26.4, which could equal an late spring or early-summer launch.

As for what to expect from the models, there haven't really been any rumors other than the expectation of a spec-bump update for each.
