On Thursday, the Oura Ring 5 debuted with new AI-driven health monitoring, blood pressure trend tracking, and integrated medical records as the smart ring company pushes deeper into preventive healthcare beyond sleep and fitness tracking.
The Oura Ring 5 is 40% smaller than the Oura Ring 4 after a redesign of the ring's sensors, signal architecture, and internal hardware. Engineers rebuilt the ring's mechanical, electrical, optical, battery, and sensing systems to shrink the hardware.
New features focus on nighttime breathing, metabolic health, and connected medical care. The redesign keeps the ring's existing tracking features while expanding its broader health tools.
The launch pushes Oura closer to territory already occupied by Apple Health and Apple Watch for iPhone users. New software features emphasize long-term biometric analysis, medical record integration, AI-generated health guidance, and connected care services.
Health tracking moves beyond sleep and recovery
Oura launched new software and health services, including Health Radar, medical record imports, AI-generated health guidance, and GLP-1 tracking tools. Initial Health Radar features include nighttime blood pressure trend monitoring and breathing analysis.
The launch includes "Oura Health Records," allowing U.S. users to import diagnosed conditions, medications, allergies, and lab results into the Oura app. Apple's Health app already supports medical records, medication tracking, and long-term health data storage on iPhone.
Apple Watch still lacks native blood pressure monitoring, giving Oura another way to differentiate its health tracking platform.
Oura partnered with Counsel Health to let eligible users in 43 U.S. states ask health questions directly inside the Oura app. The partnership also connects users with licensed medical providers through the app.
New GLP-1 tracking tools let users log doses, side effects, body changes, and related health metrics inside the Oura app. Oura also added live workout tracking with real-time pace, distance, and heart rate monitoring through connected devices.
The launch expands Oura's device location tools with support for tracking multiple rings and charging accessories through the app. Oura is also selling a portable charging case with enough reserve power for roughly one month of use.
Pricing and availability
Global pre-orders open May 28, and shipments will begin June 4. Oura Ring 5 starts at $399 and requires a subscription priced at $5.99 per month or $69.99 annually. The charging case costs $99 separately.
