It's time to update your Apple TV once again — Apple's just rolled out a tvOS 26.2 for Apple TV and the HomePod line.

Typically, whenever Apple releases an update for the Apple TV, it tends to focus on bug fixes and stability improvements, rather than adding new front-end features. And yet, this time around, there are two noteworthy new features added to tvOS.

The first feature allows users to easily create Apple TV user profiles without linking an account. This is useful for anyone in your household who might use your Apple TV but isn't currently in the Apple Ecosystem.

And Apple continues its push for child safety with another new update. Parents can enable a dedicated kids mode in the TV app for child profiles.

It also adds in more Liquid Glass support for Apple TV 4K models. Beyond that, the rest of the features are listed as under-the-hood fixes, designed to improve the overall user experience.

As noted above, it's somewhat rare to see new features added in a minor build update. It appears that tvOS 26.2 builds upon the features introduced in tvOS 26, which included a new Liquid Glass redesign, numerous updates to the Music app, and several significant audio updates as well.

Apple uses tvOS to power both its set-top box and its smart speaker lineup. However, it seems increasingly likely that Apple will rename the HomePod's operating system to "homeOS."

Many assume Apple is preparing to launch some kind of home hub, which would likely ship with its own dedicated operating system. It's unclear whether that OS would follow the iPadOS-iOS pattern, where one was essentially a lightly modified version of the other for most of its lifespan.
