Best Buy begins taking preorders for new Apple TV with Nov. 4 launch date

Electronics mega-retailer Best Buy began accepting preorders for the fourth-generation Apple TV on Wednesday, with an anticipated arrival in one week, on Nov. 4.

Users can now preorder both the 32-gigabyte and 64-gigabyte variants of the new Apple TV from Best Buy, priced at $149.99 and $199.99, respectively. The retailer lists the product's release date as Nov. 4, and it will be available for in-store pick up that same day.

Apple also began accepting preorders for the new Apple TV via its own online storefront on Monday, where free orders are scheduled to deliver between Nov. 2 and Nov. 4. Customers who opt for expedited shipping were given a delivery window between this Friday, Oct. 30, and Nov. 3.

Apple had initially said the new Apple TV will arrive in October, but with only expedited shipping deliveries arriving before the end of the month, it would appear most initial customers won't get their new handset until November.

Apple has not announced retail availability of the new Apple TV in its own stores, but a Nov. 4 launch at Best Buy would suggest that the new set-top box will also arrive in Apple's own stores next week.

The new Apple TV sports a beefed-up A8 system-on-a-chip, as well as Siri voice control with deep search functionality. It also includes a dedicated App Store for installing third-party apps. Apple began accepting app submissions last week, and also submitted a golden master of its new tvOS to developers.

Apple has required that new tvOS apps support the new Siri remote as part of their "core functionality." The remote includes a touchpad, motion input, and a microphone for Siri.
