On Tuesday, the 53rd annual NAACP Image Awards nominations were announced, with Apple TV+ pulling down nine nominations for its original films and series.
Five Apple Original films have received nominations, including Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture for stars Denzel Washington and Mahershala Ali in acclaimed Apple Original films "The Tragedy of Macbeth" and "Swan Song."
Apple also received major category nominations for Outstanding Independent Motion Picture for "CODA," and Outstanding Documentary for "1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything." In addition, Apple's short film "Blush" has been nominated for Outstanding Short-Form (Animated).
Three Apple TV+ series have also received nominations. Octavia Spenser has earned a nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for "Truth Be Told." Alfre Woodward received a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for "See," marking the series' first NAACP Image Award nomination.
Also nominated this year was "Ted Lasso," Apple's wildly popular sports comedy. The series received its first NAACP Image Award nominations with two nominations in the Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series category for writers Ashley Nicole Black and Leann Bowen.
The winners of the 53rd NAACP Image Awards will be announced on BET on Saturday, February 26.
On Tuesday, the Visual Effects Society announced its list of nominees for the 20th Annual VES awards, including Apple TV+ originals "Foundation" and "Finch."

The Tragedy of Macbeth was astoundingly good. Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand were superb. Shakespeare done right.
