Apple issues second developer beta of macOS Monterey 12.5

Apple has provided developer beta testers with a second build of macOS Monterey 12.5 to try out on their Macs and MacBooks.

The newest builds can be downloaded via the Apple Developer Center for those enrolled in the test program, or via an over-the-air update on devices running the beta software. Public betas typically arrive within a few days of the developer versions, via the Apple Beta Software Program website.

So far, it is unknown exactly what the macOS 12.5 update contains, but it is probably going to be a bug fix and performance improvement release, given the upcoming WWDC keynote.

The latest macOS beta arrives after the first beta, which landed on May 18. Apple released macOS Monterey 12.4 to the public on May 16, which itself was a bug fix and security update release.

The build number for the second macOS 12.5 developer is 21G5037d, replacing the first, which was 21G5027d.

AppleInsider, and Apple itself, strongly recommend users don't install the betas on to "mission-critical" or primary devices, as there is the remote possibility of data loss or other issues. Instead, testers should install betas onto secondary or non-essential devices, and to make sure there are sufficient backups of important data before updating.
