How to watch NASA's Artemis launch to the moon

Last updated

Despite delays, NASA's Artemis rocket is nearing its final preparations for launch. Here's how to watch everything as it happens, including on an iPhone, whenever NASA makes its next launch attempt.

It's NASA's first Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, and although its August 29, 2022, launch time was ultimately delayed, the mission is nearing. When NASA reschedules the launch, the SLS will go back through final preparations on Launch Pad 39B at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

And NASA is also preparing its live coverage, which will feature guests such as actor Chris Evans and scientists and engineers.

They'll be on the official NASA live webcast, which is regularly relaying events from mission control. On launch day, it will be live to follow through the last six-hour preparation procedure and the launch itself.

On launch day, that NASA stream will also be relayed over YouTube.

Alternatively, those interested can watch the launch via NASA's range of apps for Apple devices. There's the NASA iPhone and iPad app which is free on the App Store.

Plus there's also Apple TV app, which is also free and available via the Apple TV 4K's built-in app store.

Watch in VR

Oculus Rift owners can watch a 360-degree VR view of the launch, which is currently scheduled to begin at 7:33 a.m. Eastern. Details of how to watch through the headset are all on the official Oculus Artemis site.

Alternatively, the group Space Explorers will be relaying the VR coverage in a Facebook Live session.
