On Thursday, Moment released its latest mobile lens, the 1.55x anamorphic, which will give you lovely horizontal flares and a cinematic ultra-wide POV in iPhone photos and videos.
The new 1.55x anamorphic joins the company's existing 1.33x anamorphic and the rest of its mobile lens lineup. The 1.55x can comparatively fit more into frame than the 1.33x and provides more of the desired flare and distortion.
To use the lens, users only need one of Moment's cases with the drop-in lens mount with the company's custom bayonet system that holds the lens in place. It also works with Moment's filter adapter for shooting the proper frame rate in bright conditions.
Anamorphic lenses squeeze the image while shooting which is then de-squeezed in post. Using the Moment Pro Camera app, it will automatically de-squeeze the image or video cutting down on post-production workload.
Filmmakers use anamorphic lenses because they allow the camera to get much closer to the subject while still keeping the environment in frame. They also produce wide horizontal lens flares from light sources that are impossible to capture with a standard lens.
The new anamorphic 1.55x lens ships with a tool to remove the back panel and a small microfiber pouch to keep it safe.
Compared to the iPhone's built-in ultra-wide lens, an anamorphic lens can be used with the primary 48MP sensor which is larger and has better bokeh, leading to overall improved image quality.
The Moment 1.55x Mobile Anamorphic Lens is available for preorder now at a discounted rate of $119.99 before it climbs to its full MSRP of $149.99. Shipping will commence in March.
