First 'Foundation' episode streams free on YouTube on Monday

Foundation [Apple TV+]

Ahead of the premiere of the second season of "Foundation," Apple is giving everyone a chance to watch the first-ever episode of the epic, via a YouTube stream and Q&A session on Monday.

The second season of the Apple TV+ saga "Foundation" will be returning for another ten episodes on Friday, July 14, released weekly. To promote the show, Apple is making the first episode of the first season available to anyone to watch.

Streaming on YouTube on Monday, at 11 am Pacific, 2 pm Eastern, the first episode titled "The Emperor's Peace" will air for free through the Alphabet-owned service. Following the episode, a live question and answer session with executive producer and showrunner David S. Goyer will take place.

Apple already does provide access to the first episode for free through its streaming service, but it does require having the app on a smart TV, an iPhone, an iPad, a Mac, or an Apple TV set-top box. The YouTube stream will offer the episode up to a much wider audience, including those who haven't got access to Apple TV+ itself.

The streaming stunt follows after a similar action to promote the finale of "Silo," with Apple putting the entire first episode onto Twitter in late June.

Based on the Isaac Asimov novels, "Foundation" follows exiles on a journey to save humanity and to rebuild civilization, during the fall of the Galactic Empire. Produced by Skydance Television, the show has a cast including Emmy-nominated actors Jared Harris and Lee Pace, as well as Lou Llobell, Leah Harvey, Laura Birn, Cassian Bilton, and Terrence Mann.
