'Killers of the Flower Moon' streams on Apple TV+ very soon

Lily Gladstone and Leonardo DiCaprio in 'Killers of the Flower Moon'

Exiting a successful theatrical run, and a period of digital rental availability, Apple has announced a streaming date for "Killers of the Flower Moon" — and it is soon.

"Killers of the Flower Moon" was made available for digital purchase or rent on December 5. And, Apple has now announced a streaming date of January 12 on Apple TV+.

Since its premiere, "Killers of the Flower Moon" has also landed on the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Oscars shortlists in the Best Makeup and Hair, Best Sound, Best Original Score and Best Original Song categories. The film has been selected as the No. 1 Best Film of 2023 by The New York Times and The New Yorker, in addition to its recognition by over 20 critics groups globally, including being awarded Best Film by the New York Film Critics Circle.

"Killers of the Flower Moon" is set in 1920s Oklahoma and depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins and Jillian Dion.

Producers are Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, Martin Scorsese and Daniel Lupi. Leonardo DiCaprio, Rick Yorn, Adam Somner, Marianne Bower, Lisa Frechette, John Atwood, Shea Kammer and Niels Juul served as executive producers.

The general release of the film in theaters resulted in an opening weekend of $23 million in the United States, and a further $21 million abroad. However, the following weekend, the film's sales dropped by 61%.

In all honesty, it was meh. My movie was much more exciting, if I do say so myself. At least the first one.

"Exiting a successful theatrical run..." Weird way to say "flop", but ok.

It was 34th in the world for 2023:

The Flash (19), Indiana Jones (15), Ant-Man (10) were called flops. It's a pretty high bar to only consider fewer than the top 10 movies to be successful for an entire year.

If a movie makes back its budget and attracts subscribers, it's provided sufficient return on investment. While Killers of the Flower Moon isn't the most interesting movie, the production values and acting are way above the typical standard for streaming content. This caliber of cinematic content is way more compelling for viewers than long drawn-out disposable TV shows. I'd rather they had 10 of these kind of movies than 100 Morning Show level productions.
