If you're feeling overwhelmed with the amount of notifications you're receiving, you're hardly alone — that's why we're here to show you how to manage notifications on your iPhone.
For as great as the iPhone is, it can be pretty distracting when you think about it. According to a study done in 2024, the average person receives 146 notifications per day.
And, the younger you are, the more notifications you receive. Those in Generation Z received about 181 notifications a day — about one every eight minutes.
But it doesn't have to be that way, either. You can stay the onslaught of notifications through a number of proactive methods, and AppleInsider is here to show you how.
Setting up scheduled summary on iOS 26
One of the most annoying things about notifications is not necessarily the number of notifications, but the frequency with which they arrive. If you truly are getting a notification every few minutes, Scheduled Summary can help you group this into more manageable batches throughout the day.
- On iPhone, open the Settings app
- Tap Notifications
- Tap Scheduled Summary
- Toggle Scheduled Summary on
- Tap Continue
- Set the schedule for the notification summaries
- Select the apps you want to appear in Scheduled Summary
- When finished, press the back button
Turn off notifications for individual apps
If you've got an app that is constantly blowing up your phone, you can revoke the app's right to send you notifications entirely. This is great if you've got an app that you only use occasionally that sends you a lot of junk notifications.
- Open Settings
- Tap Notifications
- Scroll down and tap the app you wish to stop receiving notifications for
- Toggle off Allow Notifications
How to turn off government alerts on iPhone
If you've had a smartphone for a while, chances are you've had a pretty good scare from an ill-timed government alert. These include weather alerts, AMBER alerts — pretty much anything the government wants to ensure you see.
There are, however, certain government alerts we'd suggest leaving on. Public Safety Alerts and Emergency Alerts, for example, provide both Severe and Extreme Imminent Threat Alerts — you'd probably do well to leave those on.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to the bottom to a section that reads Government Alerts
- Toggle off any alerts you wish to no longer receive
- When finished, either close settings or hit the back button
