An under-the-wire leak suggests that the Dynamic Island cutout may be getting smaller — at least for the iPhone 17 Pro line.
On Friday, a new leak surfaced on X, showing a dynamic notch cutout in a screen protector that measures 1.5 centimeters. In current-generation iPhone models, the dynamic island is 2 centimeters, suggesting a size reduction of 25%.
The leaker, who goes by @that_one_g3, notes that this size is for the iPhone 17 Pro. They also provide photos of a product on a screen where the Dynamic Island does, in fact, appear to be smaller on the higher-end models.

The leak was spotted by MacRumors who points out that the leaker is previously unknown. And, as such, advises that the leak be taken with a grain of salt.
This isn't the first time we've heard this rumor before, though. And, like most design rumors, this one has had quite a bit of back and forth.
In January, Ming-Chi Kuo said that the Dynamic Island would not be getting a redesign. Though he did somewhat hedge his bets, saying that it would remain "largely unchanged."
A month later, leaker "Digital Chat Station" suggested that the Dynamic Island would, in fact, shrink — for the iPhone 17 Pro Max only.
Accessory vendors do not generally get briefed in advance of an iPhone release. Initial launch products take leaks and rumors on faith — and there have been some misses.
