Samsung Display is once again rumored to be the supplier for the OLED MacBook Pro and will allegedly start production in the middle of 2026.

The OLED MacBook Pro has been a frequently rumored display upgrade, which will bring the portable Mac in line with the iPhone and iPad. With the potential launch late in 2026 for the model, Apple is reportedly tapping a well-known screen source to make it happen.

According to The Elec on Tuesday, Samsung Display will be making the displays in 2026. The existing supply chain partner, who already provides many screens to Apple, will reportedly commence production on the panels for the 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro from the second quarter of 2026.

The report sources say that it will involve the production of two prototypes at Samsung Display's Gen 8 OLED factory A6 in Asan, South Korea, later in 2025.

This will be a test for Samsung Display to meet Apple's standards, since they are newly developed parts. If they do not appease Apple, there could be further delays to the introduction of the OLED MacBook Pro.

While the factory has a capacity of up to 10 million 14-inch OLED panels per year, the expected production volume for Apple is between 2 million and 3 million units. The factory has two lines, each with a 7,500 substrate-per-month capacity, with one intended for MacBook OLED panels.

Though Samsung Display does have dedicated production lines to make OLED panels for iPhones, the lines here won't be dedicated to the MacBook Pro. Samsung is talking to other PC manufacturers about making similar OLED screens to fill up remaining capacity.

Samsung Display will apparently be the only OLED panel supplier for the MacBook lineup.

A probable and recurring claim

For regular AppleInsider readers, they will have heard about the possibility of Samsung Display making OLED panels for MacBooks in the past. Going back to July 2023, Samsung Display has been linked to making OLED panels for the MacBook Pro.

Since then, the OLED MacBook Pro has been a regular subject for the rumor mill.

In December 2024, a supposed roadmap from Omdia revealed an expectation for MacBook Pro models with a "Hybrid OLED" display. Months previously, in May 2024, Omdia pushed back expectations of an OLED MacBook Pro from 2024 to 2025, and then 2026.

By July 2025, Omdia still believed that a 2026 launch was on the cards, which Dealsite agreed with in August.

Throughout all of the rumors, Samsung Display has been mentioned as the expected supplier.
