While Trump Mobile is still not close to its initial promise of a completely made in USA phone, at least it's now trying to pass off an overpriced and used iPhone 14 instead of a bad rebranded Android device.
Trump Mobile launched in 2025 with big promises of a fully "Made in America" smartphone called the T1, marketed as a patriotic alternative to Apple and Samsung. It claimed to represent "wireless independence" and a return to U.S. manufacturing.
The problem was that the phone was a photoshopped Chinese made and designed Android clone. There was no chance that it could be made in America.
The mockups were all a mix of AI composites and photoshopped iPhones and Samsung devices. None were real products.
Trump Mobile is operated by MVNO T1 Mobile LLC, a separate company that licenses the Trump name. It isn't part of the Trump Organization, though the branding and tone mirror Trump's political messaging.
Additionally, Donald Trump Jr. appeared at the launch, casting further doubt on the separation of business and Trump.
The new online store is the company's first actual sales effort. It's relying on a gullible public that isn't aware of resale values, and what an iPhone 14 from 2022 costs in 2025.
Trump Mobile's patriotic pivot
Trump Mobile promised a "made in America" smartphone, but the T1 Phone still doesn't exist. The company's new store mainly sells used iPhones and Samsung devices.
A refurbished "iPhone 14 Renewed" from Trump Mobile is priced at $489, roughly 45% higher than the average $335 renewed price on Amazon. The site also advertises a "T1 Phone," claiming it's a premium smartphone "built by American hands."
That phone, however, exists only as marketing material. Every public image of the T1 has been a digital fake.
Some feature a gold-tinted, $1000 Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. Others borrowed the then-current iPhone 16 Pro Max with a Trump logo pasted on top.
The T1 Phone may not exist, but the preorder form certainly does.
Refurbished phones at premium prices
A small disclaimer on Trump Mobile's website explains that the company merely licenses the Trump name and isn't affiliated with the Trump Organization. The phones themselves come from third-party vendors, undercutting the entire "made in America" premise central to the marketing.
Trump Mobile's website encourages people to put down a $100 deposit to preorder the T1. The company once promised the phone would ship in August, just before the iPhone 17 launch.
Its advertised specs include a 6.8-inch AMOLED screen, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. It also lists a 50MP main camera, 16MP front camera, and a 5,000mAh battery with 20W charging.
The T1 costs $499 with a $100 down payment. That's almost triple the $180 Amazon price for the Chinese-made T-Mobile REVVL 7 Pro 5G it copies, which is made by Wingtech under Luxshare in China.
And then there's the used iPhone 14 models that Trump Mobile is overcharging for.
"The Apple iPhone 14 Renewed isn't just another smartphone — it's a bold step toward wireless independence," Trump Mobile declares. "Apple iPhone 14 Renewed delivers top-tier performance, sleek design, and powerful features — all without the inflated price tag."
Except that the price tag is literally inflated by Trump Mobile. Consumers wind up paying more money for an iPhone 14, a three-year old smartphone, through Trump Mobile than they would elsewhere.
We've seen used iPhone 16 models for about the same that Trump Mobile is charging for the iPhone 14. If you must use Trump Mobile, at least do that instead, and bring your own phone.
It's all branding
From the branding to the masthead, it's clear that Trump Mobile wants users to pay for Trump branding and political messaging over anything else. We assume the iPhone 14 models they're selling are functional, but the rebranded REVVL phone is Android clone garbage, made in China.
The smartphone market is crowded and sensitive to price, which makes success even harder. Trump Mobile may face the same challenge trying to sell its devices.
If you're looking for a truly American-made smartphone, you won't find it on Trump Mobile. Instead, you might want to consider options like the iPhone, which is, at least, like Apple says, "designed in California."
Trump Mobile won't convince anyone outside the loyal base to pay more for less.
