The iPhone 18 Pro may have a more uniform appearance at the back than the iPhone 17 Pro, as a leaker claims a change in processing the rear glass will lose the two-tone effect.
The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max underwent a major overhaul in the fall, combining an aluminum casing with a glass cutout section. While Apple does color-match the two materials fairly well, there is still a distinct difference in how the two appear.
This may not necessarily be as apparent in the next model, if a leaker is to be believed. Instant Digital on Weibo wrote late on Monday that the iPhone 18 Pro series will use a new process for the rear glass.
The change is intended to minimize the color difference between the glass section and the rest of the aluminum back panel. The result, if all goes well, will be a more seamless appearance of the back of the iPhone, closer to the previous designs.
This is not the only rumor to have come from Instant Digital about the appearance of the iPhone 18 Pro models. On November 4, they claimed that Apple was testing three colorways for the iPhone 18 Pro, including a coffee color, purple, and burgundy.
Elsewhere, one earlier September 17 Weibo rumor dubiously insisted that Apple would use a "slightly transparent" back glass in the iPhone 18 Pro.
Instant Digital has a fairly decent track record when it comes to iPhone rumors. This includes an accurate prediction for Camera Control, frosted glass on the iPhone 15, and the yellow iPhone 14.
However, Weibo leakers generally tend to regurgitate rumors from other sources, and frequently repost without qualifying or checking the rumor independently.
