A new rumor claims that mass production has begun early for an OLED display that could be intended for a future MacBook Pro.
Apple has been expected to add a OLED screen to the MacBook Pro, with the most recent rumors predicting a late 2026 release. A new report raises the possibility that Apple may release its OLED MacBook Pro early.
According to leaker yeux1122, Samsung Display has begun mass production of what's described as the 8.6 generation OLED screens. The leak claims that Samsung was originally expected to produce these screens from the second quarter of 2026.
The leaker also expressly says that this screen will be for the MacBook Pro. That actually fits with previous reports that claimed Apple has signed an exclusive deal with Samsung Display for this generation screen.
OLED, as used in the M5 iPad Pro, produces richer, more vibrant colors, and darker blacks. Consequently, it's been an easy prediction that Apple will add it to the MacBook Pro, especially it looks to give reasons for users to upgrade from older models.
But reports about the screen have also suggested that this means Apple will finally release a touch-screen MacBook Pro. It is possible, as the screens could be On-Cell Touch AMOLED (OCTA) ones, and Samsung Display has announced making touch-screens with this.
If these 8.6-gen displays can be configured as touchscreen ones, other rumors say that Apple will also reduce the size of the notch. It may become more of a pin-hole design, as is often rumored for the iPhone.
What is certain, though, is that these new displays will not be in any MacBook Pro released before the end of 2025. The scheduling of the release of Apple Creator Studio for January 28, 2026, has made for speculation that Apple will also launch new Macs then.
But entering mass production just weeks or even days before a launch is impossible. Nonetheless, it does suggest that an OLED MacBook Pro could come sooner than previously expected.
Note that leaker yeux1122 has only a mixed track record for Apple news. However, based on what we know about OLED timetables and Samsung Display, it fits, and makes sense.
