Apple TV is moving ahead with its "Greyhound" follow-up, with Tom Hank's naval drama set to broaden its scope from a single Atlantic traverse, to both the D-Day landings and the Pacific theater.
The film, which doesn't have release date this time, is currently in production in Australia. Tom Hanks is penning the film and will return to reprise his role as United States Navy Commander Ernest Kraus.
The sequel will expand beyond the Atlantic setting of the first film, taking the audience from the beaches of Normandy to the battles in the Pacific theater.
Deadline notes that Stephen Graham will reprise his role as Navigator Cole. Also returning is Elisabeth Shue.
New to the cast is Jack Patten, known for starring as the lead in the Amazon series "Robin Hood."
"Greyhound," based on the 1955 C.S. Forester novel "The Good Shepherd," was initially slated for theater release in June 2020. However, after the COVID-19 pandemic forced theater closures, Sony, the original distribution company, sold the rights to Apple TV.
Beyond just appreciation from the two US Navy vets on the AppleInsider staff, the film would go on to set viewership records for Apple's then-nascent streaming service. The success would see Apple invest in more blockbuster-style films.
