The colors that the upcoming budget MacBook will be sold in were reportedly first considered for the 2022 MacBook Air before Apple chose Silver, Starlight, and Space Gray.

Rumors currently have the low-cost MacBook shipping in blue, green, and yellow. Now, in a post on the Weibo Chinese social network, leaker Instant Digital says this isn't the first time these colors have been in the works.

The post didn't elaborate on why Apple decided against using the more colorful hues for the M2 MacBook Air. But they did add that Apple's new color range "looks fresh."

This isn't the first time that we've heard of Apple's plans to give the M2 MacBook Air a dash of color. A leak from October 2021 claimed that the then-unannounced laptop would come in colors similar to the iMac.

The leak also claimed that the laptop's bezels and keyboard will transition from black to an off-white hue. That also didn't come to pass, and there has so far been no suggestion that the budget MacBook will offer something similar.

Instant Digital has been a regular on the leaking scene in the last couple of years, often correctly predicting Apple's product plans. He previously correctly predicted the launch of a yellow iPhone 14 and, more recently, the iPhone 16 Pro's battery specifications.

A budget alternative

The new MacBook is expected to offer laptop buyers a cheaper alternative to budget Windows laptops and Chromebooks. That means we can expect a price between $599 and $799, according to previous reports.

Apple is expected to use the iPhone's A18 Pro chip and a smaller display than the 13-inch MacBook Air to achieve that price point. It's unknown if Apple will cut other corners to further reduce costs.

As for timeframes, Apple will hold media events on March 4, 2026, with the new MacBook expected to be the star of the show. A report recently suggested Apple will announce its new products in the week prior.
